Question

Why does the volume of an air bubble increase as it rises up to the surface of water from the depth of a pond?

Solution

During the gradual rise to the surface of water, the temperature of water remains unchanged throughout but the depth of water decreases. As a result, the pressure of water decreases and consequently, the volume of the air bubble increases as per Boyles’ law.
