Question

Why do we mention about constant mass of a gas in case of Boyles’ and Charles’ law?

Solution

For n moles of a gas, the combined gas equation is written as, PV/T= nR The numerical value of n.R depends upon the quantity of gas but is totally independent of the nature of gas. Hence, the relationship among the quantities of P, V and T depend upon the mass of the gas taken. Thus, both Boyles’ and Charles’ law deal with constant mass of a gas.
