Question
Why aerated bottles are kept under water during summer?
Solution
Aerated water bottles contain CO2 gas dissolved in aqueous solution under excess pressure. In summer, the solubility of the gas in solution decreases with the rise in ambient temperature. Consequently, the amount of free gas in the bottle increases. This leads to an increase in pressure. Thus, the bottles may explode if not kept under cold water in summer.
