Question

Which one between resistance of a conductor and resistivity of the material of that conductor is more fundamental?

Solution

Apart from dimensions of the conductor, resistance depends upon resistivity of the material of the conductor. On the other hand, resistivity of a substance does not depend on the length or area of cross-section of the conductor. It is the characteristic property of the substance (i.e. the nature of the material). Hence, resistivity is more fundamental than resistance of a conductor.
