What is the significance of power rating?

Solution

Electrical appliances are rated with power and voltage to indicate its operational conditions for desired performance and normal life. Forexample, an incandescent bulb is given a power rating. From this power rating we can calculate the following for the bulb: (i) the resistance of the bulb when it is glowing, And (ii) the safe limit of current which can flow through the bulb without producing undue heating when it is in use.
