Question

What are the factors upon which the resistance of a conductor depends?

Solution

Resistance (R) of a conductor (such as a metallic wire) depends on: (i)nature of material of the conductor (ii)length of the conductor: resistance is directly proportional to the length of the conductor. (iii) area of cross-section of the conductor: resistance is inversely proportional to the area of cross-section of the conductor. (iv) temperature: with increase in temperature, resistance of a conductor increases.
