Question

Equal number of helium and hydrogen atoms are kept in two similar jars at same temperature. What will be the ratio of their pressure?

Solution

Let there be NA atoms of each of helium and hydrogen. Ratio of moles of helium & hydrogen = 2: 1, since helium is monatomic and hydrogen is diatomic gas respectively. If volume and temperature remain constant, P proportional to n. Thus, ratio of pressure of helium to that of hydrogen shall be 2: 1.
