The desirable features of a fuse wire are below: (i)The material used for making fuse should have low melting point so that it easily due to passage of high current and consequently breaks the circuit. Generally, the fuse wire made from the alloy of tin and lead melts at around 200°C. (ii)It should have a high resistance so that its temperature rises rapidly as compared to the connecting wiring. Thus, when current exceeds certain predetermined limit, it melts and breaks the circuit.(iii)The material must be resistant to deterioration, as otherwise its basic characteristics get changed with the passage of time. (iv) It must be of moderate cost.
